Design for Diversity is a new way of viewing, planning and designing public space through a lens of inclusion and diversity. INTER/play at Vivid Sydney

Vivid Sydney 2015 is currently underway and lighting up the city in this unique annual event of light, music and ideas. INTER/play by The Propaganda Mill transforms historic Cadmans Cottage into a magical environment by using the architecture of the building as a canvas and light as a material. Instead of being pre-rendered, the graphics projected onto and into the cottage evolve in real-time and are ‘sculpted’ through the movement and interactions of spectators, people passing by or those drawn into the cottage itself. Soft Spin

Soft Spin, a sculptural and sound installation by Toronto-based artist Heather Nicol located in the Winter Garden Atrium of Brookfield place in  New York’s financial district.  Designed to conjur up the feel of swirling skirts, six colorful sculptures are suspended from the ceiling. The “skirts” swirl when pedestrians pass by, creating the sound of singing voices–six different voices. Continue reading

Hands Holding Things

Toronto-based artist, collector and curator Micah Lexier, a Winnipeg native, officially launches Hands Holdings Things (2015) series of images in partnership with PATTISON’s Art in Transit programme. The 8 image series will be displayed on street level outdoor media products at several locations across the city, with media supplied by PATTISON Outdoor Advertising from April 1 to May 29, 2015.

DRIVE New York

DRIVE is a nationwide journey to encourage bottom-up efforts and “drive” social innovation through design. The project documents collaborative creations with urban and rural community groups. Designed by Rotten Apple and Soft Walks, DRIVE is a six-city series that starts off in New York City and continues in Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Omaha and Laramie. Continue reading

Dive into the Park Avenue Tunnel


As part of  The New York City Depeartment of Transporatation Summer Streets 2014, Norwegian artist Jana Winderen created a 7-block long immersive sound installation within the Park Avenue Tunnel, running from 33rd Street to 40th Street. The soundscape uses sound recorded from shallow to deep underwater environments found in countries from Greenland to Thailand.  Continue reading
