Launched in 2006, OpenCity Projects aims to elevate the role public space plays in bringing people together and strengthening communities. In our research and engagement consulting practice, we view place through the eyes of people who use it every day and apply our insights to create more vibrant urban experiences. Our optimistic blog covers creative use of public spaces in major cities around the world— from sustainable materials to beautiful landscaping and unexpected programming.
Our Philosophy
The OpenCity name reflects our belief that Toronto’s future is unfolding before us, it is ‘unfinished’ and full of possibility. Unlike many other urban centers, Toronto cannot easily be defined by traditional landmarks, attractions or symbols. We think that this ‘unfinished’ quality makes Toronto openness like no other city — open to change, cultures and interpretation.
