The new Santa Monica church in Madrid, designed by Vicens + Ramos, brings a fresh form to an ancient function.
With religious attendance in Spain at around 21 per cent, building a new church may seem like a losing gamble. Nonetheless, Santa Monica’s whimsical design invites curious passers-by to step inside.
Inside, contemporary pieces by local artists serve to inspire worshippers.
Built on a long, narrow site, the building features a Corten exterior and multiple skylights.
