Play this giant xylophone in London

London-based pH+ created the temporary structure for the London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy (LCCCP)for this year’s edition of the London Festival of Architecture. The pavilion features walls covered in copper pipes, allowing the building to function as a huge xylophone.  The xylophone-like surfaces frame a pathway that forms the pavilion’s perimeter. Children are invited to pick up small mallets at the entrance, allowing them to make music by striking the walls.

Sunbeds perk up an abandoned space

The designers of No Studio from Wroclaw, Poland are creating a series of micro-installations to breath new life into neglected public spaces. Founded by Magda Szwajcowska and Michal Majewski, No Studio’s portfolio contains works that range from temporary architecture to small-scale architecture to product design. Their motto is to solve problems as opposed to creating monuments. Continue reading

Our Treasures are Within

DOT Art presents, “Our Treasures are Within,” a mural painted within a 100-foot pedestrian tunnel at 88th Road and Cross Island Parkway in Bellerose Manor, Queens. Joel Bergner’s brightly colored narrative mural was the finishing touch of the transformation, creating an inviting corridor for pedestrians of all ages. “Our Treasures are Within” celebrates the empowerment of youth. Prior to installation, the artist hosted workshops with students from the neighboring school, St. Gregory the Great School, to develop concepts and designs for the mural. Continue reading

JR makes the Louvre pyramid disappear

For his new show “JR au Louvre“, the remarkable Ted Prize-winning French street artist and photographer JR used his talent for large scale photos to create a fantastic illusion in Paris. Using his trademark technique, JR made the iconic glass and metal pyramid that sits proudly at the entrance of the incredible Musée du Louvre completely disappear into the facade of the Museum building right behind it .
